Imagined Futures: Trailer

Object returns with the "Imagined Futures" miniseries on 23 February + announcing my forthcoming book 'Astrology in Art'

Series 2 of the Object podcast is right around the corner and the trailer is now available for your listening pleasure!

I’m jazzed to share that the “Imagined Futures” series will be brought to you in partnership with The Public Domain Review. If you’re not already familiar with PDR, they’re a brilliant online journal exploring curious and compelling works from the history of art, literature, and ideas. I’ve been diving into their archives for months as part of my research, and their collections have been full of extremely cool finds that I can’t wait to share with you over the coming weeks.

This new series will explore visuals relating to the ways we’ve imagined the future across different eras, from Victorian Scientific Romance to Space Age design, Afrofuturism, and cyberpunk.

“Imagined Futures” launches February 23, with new episodes dropping every other week. Until then, do have a listen to the trailer and get ready to explore how yesterday’s tomorrows help us understand today.

You can explore PDR’s collections at publicdomainreview.org.

In other exciting news… I have a new book called Astrology in Art coming this September with Laurence King Publishing.

I‘ve truly enjoyed researching and writing this book over the past couple of years, and I can’t wait to share more details and sneak peeks in the coming months. My goal was to create something that was both thoughtful and accessible, engaging with astrology’s presence in art while remaining an enjoyable read for anyone curious about the intersections of celestial symbolism and creative expression. Here’s the official book blurb:

‘For almost as long as humans have pondered over the stars and their meanings, astrological and cosmological subjects have appeared in art.’

Spanning the centuries and featuring more than 70 masterpieces, Astrology in Art traces a stunning visual history of Western astrology, showing how artists from Botticelli to Andy Warhol have drawn on celestial symbolism to explore ideas about time, belief and human experience.

From 12th-century cathedrals to Surrealist paintings and modern sculpture, art historian Ferren Gipson highlights works that weave together symbols from astronomy, astrology and mythology to glittering effect.

Astrology in Art takes us on a journey through the heavens, honouring our fascination with the stars and decoding some of art’s most intriguing and illuminating pieces.

Includes works by Hilma af Klint, Andy Warhol, Alphonse Mucha, Albrecht Dürer, Salvador Dali, Ernest Procter, Botticelli, Betye Saar, Fransisco Goya, Jan Brueghel the Younger, Man Ray, David Shrigley, Evelyn de Morgan, Paul Klee, Max Ernst, Joan Miro, Grayson Perry and Kiki Smith.

I’ll be sharing more images and stories from the book in the coming months, but for now, I wanted to let you know that Astrology in Art is available for pre-order wherever books are sold.
