Oh, snap! I'm teaching an online course...
Join me for a short course on art in revolutionary China starting January 2021!
I’m excited to share that in January 2021 – when this hellacious year is mercifully in the past – I will be teaching an online short course called Art and Revolutionary China with the Black Blossoms School of Art and Culture. I do a lot of writing and podcasts on more general art historical topics, so some of you may not know that socialist-era Chinese are is my jam. We’re going to have a good time on Zoom discussing themes in Chinese political posters and paintings from the 50s, 60s and 70s. I hope you’ll join me!
6 January - 27 January 2021, Every Wednesday at 7:00 PM (BST)
Cost: £50
Art for everyone!
I love art. That’s no secret. I think many more people could discover their love of art if it felt more accessible. It’s a multi-layered issue, including a lack of arts funding in education and public programming, but I think (hope) things have been heading in a better direction in recent years. I was super blessed to share some thoughts on the state of the art sector in a special arts supplement for the Financial Times. Their site has a paywall, but I believe you can see the article if you click the link in this tweet.
Art Matters podcast
Excuse me – are you up-to-date on the podcast? A whole new season began since my last email! I am definitely biased, but I think there have been some really strong episodes this season. So far, we’ve discussed art in advertising, psychoanalysis, London Underground posters, and more. We even have an episode about the 1666 plague! The picture above is an advertisement Dalí designed for Datsun. Isn’t that wild?!
Listen to the podcast here, or if you prefer to read, you can do that here. Easy.
A note on my video content… I’m full of excuses (good ones) for why I haven’t done any videos lately, but they will return. Promise.
